Difficulty Losing Weight? 5 Common Hurdles To Weight Loss
We have found that our clients have difficulty losing weight due to a few common hurdles that get in the way of the weight loss they desire. So, if you feel like you’re trying really hard but you’re not getting the results, you may find that it’s one or two of these five common hurdles that’s getting in the way of your weight loss success.
So here they are, which one rings true for you?
Difficulty losing weight? Check out these 5 Common Hurdles
1. Portion size
I’m sure you know that “Size does Matter”! Being aware of your portion size means you can enjoy the food you love, it’s just a matter of having the right size when you have it. We talk about portion sizes as “Tora Size”, because Tora allows herself treats when she feels like it, yet to stay at her confident weight she just has small portions. Whenever I want to lose a few pounds, all I do is reduce my portion sizes of my meals by 1 to 2 spoonfuls; this way I don’t go hungry but I also reduce my portions to Tora Size. Often people think this is far too simple – “you mean I just have to eat the same, but less”, they say? Yep, you got it – give it a go!
To support yourself and your weight loss efforts while not feeling deprived, you must be consistent with your meal times. Never, ever skip a meal. That way your body and your emotional self knows where and when the next meal is coming from, otherwise you create mistrust in yourself and you will also end up with the dreaded sugar cravings because of your blood sugar levels dropping. So, eat consistently each day.
3. Too many treats
Sad to say, but we all know there can be a thing as too many treats… There are two main reasons you could overeat in this area are:
1. you have skipped a meal and now need sugar or treats to prop you up
2. you’re not clear on what is a treat.
If you tend to skip meals, take another look at point two above and, if you’re not clear on what’s classified as a treat, read the labels. If there is more than 10% sugars per 100gms of food, then it’s moving into treat food category.
4. Tired but wired
I think this is a modern day dilemma, too many stimulants and not enough rest and you end up tired but wired. I personally struggle with this one the most.
To support myself as best I can, I have set wake and bedtimes and I do my best to reduce stimulants from 12pm onwards. And, it’s important to have time to yourself – even if it’s only half an hour a week.
5. Too many carbohydrates
This has become the new fad, as society has moved on from the low fat fad into “carbohydrates are evil” phase. We don’t advocate that you become obsessed about cutting out carbohydrates, and you will scream for sugar and caffeine if you cut out too many. However what we have noticed is that most people do eat way too many carbs, e.g. pasta, rice, bread, muffins, processed food. So rule of thumb, medium carbohydrates is best, so eat your breads or grains for breakfast and lunch and lighten up with fresh vegetable carbohydrates in the evening. And, start to upgrade your diet by reducing the amount of processed food you eat.
